There doesn't have to be a certain type or model. Just as long as it accepts the M4/M16 Magazine it can be a SCAR, M4, or whatever. There are a lot of good guns out there on the market that you can get, it really depends on your budget as to what you should get.

Keep in that the metal guns are going to run you a little more but they are going to hold up well against being dropped, or if they are accidentally banged against something.

A lot of the guys like to start out using a Echo1 M4A1 metal body gun, as JBear pointed out. I think Nashville Airsoft has them for somewhere around the $250 mark. It's a great starter gun for the money.

there is one i seen a while ago but it was made with a plastic gearbox and is a plastic body but it has a grenade launcher attachment

Dustin,
 I recommend getting one of the new style KWA M4s. They come with fully upgraded boxes that can support any field limit fps with just adding a spring, saving a expensive upgrade. Also coming upgraded, they are not as likely to fail post upgrade. If your looking for something a bit more "special", I am taking one of my DMR's down to sane levels and I might part with it.
